The Challenge
SwiftBite needed a complete on-demand food delivery platform — customer app (iOS + Android), restaurant partner app, and a real-time driver app — all connected through a single backend. The system needed live GPS tracking, dynamic surge pricing, driver dispatch optimisation, and push notifications with sub-5 second delivery.
Building three apps simultaneously with one codebase and launching all three within 5 months was the core engineering challenge.
Our Approach
- React Native shared codebase with platform-specific modules for payments and camera across all three apps
- Built a Node.js + PostgreSQL dispatch engine using Haversine-based driver proximity matching
- Google Maps Platform integration — live tracking polylines, ETA calculation, and geofenced restaurant zones
- AWS SQS + Lambda for asynchronous order event processing — handling 10x traffic spikes during peak hours
- AI-powered surge pricing model trained on historical order density per zone and time window
- Dual-platform App Store and Google Play submission for both customer and driver apps simultaneously
